About This Course
This foundational topic in mechanics covers the study of forces and motion in one dimension. Learners will investigate Newton’s laws of motion, equations of motion, and apply these concepts to solve problems involving velocity, acceleration, and force.
Learning Outcomes:
The learner should be able to:
- Determine the resultants of parallel and nonparallel forces.
- Use trigonometric functions to explore the application of ratios in finding the resultant of two or more forces acting at a point and make presentations.
- Resolve forces in polygons and determine the resultant force.
- Understand and apply Newton’s laws of motion.
- Investigate the effects of friction on bodies
- Experiment the application of friction and Newton’s laws to bodies in limiting equilibrium and in motion on horizontal and inclined surfaces.
- Applies Newton’s laws of motion to the pulley systems and connected bodies on smooth and rough surfaces for horizontal and inclined planes.
- Calculate displacement, velocity, and acceleration for uniformly accelerated motion.
- Apply dynamics principles to practical situations.
