About This Course
This topic introduces learners to the powerful concept of matrices used for organizing and processing data. Students will learn matrix notation, types of matrices, and perform operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and scalar multiplication. The focus is on using matrices to represent and solve systems of linear equations and modelling transformations.
Learning Outcomes:
The learner should be able to:
- Define, identify different types of matrices and states its order.
- know when matrices can be added or multiplied.
- Perform matrix operations including addition, subtraction, and multiplication
- find the determinant of a 2 × 2 matrix.
- find the inverse of a 2 × 2 matrix and understands why it may not be possible to do so.
- Apply matrices to solve systems of two simultaneous equations of two variables.
- apply knowledge of matrices in solving problems from real life situation.
- Use matrix representation for storing and manipulating data.
- Understand the application of matrices in real-world contexts such as coding and economics.
