About This Course
Learners will study the mathematical principles of chance and uncertainty. This topic introduces sample spaces, events, probability axioms, and the calculation of probabilities for simple and compound events.
Learning Outcomes:
The learner should be able to:
- define and determine probability, an event, sample space and probability range.
- Generate possibility space using the tree diagram, table of outcomes.
- Explore the use permutations and combinations.
- Relate set theory to probability theory and design a contingency table.
- Apply the addition and multiplication rules of probability.
- Calculate probabilities of independent and mutually exclusive events.
- Understand and use conditional probability.
- discuss and explore Bayes’ theorem to determine probabilities of occurrence of events.
- Solve problems involving probability in real-life contexts.
