About This Course
Set theory introduces the foundational language of mathematics. Students learn about sets, subsets, Venn diagrams, union, intersection, and complements. The topic emphasizes logical thinking and application in sorting, classification, and probability.
Learning Outcomes:
The learner should be able to:
- Define and describe sets using notation and Venn diagrams.
- identify different types of sets and their symbols (empty set, universal set, equal set, complement set, disjoint set, intersection set, union set, subset).
- determine the number of elements in a set.
- Interpret and create Venn diagrams with two or three sets.
- represent and show different operations on sets by shading the different regions in a Venn diagram.
- apply sets in practical situations using two and three sets.
- Use sets to solve classification and counting problems.
- Apply set theory in probability and data analysis.
