About This Course
This topic extends the study of vectors into two and three dimensions, focusing on operations, applications, and geometrical interpretations. Learners explore vector addition, scalar and vector products, and use vectors to solve problems involving geometry, motion, and forces.
Learning Outcomes:
The learner should be able to:
- Represent vectors in component form in 2D and 3D.
- Determine magnitude and direction of a vector
- compute the dot product and cross product and their applications.
- State and apply the ratio theorem.
- Derive vector, parametric and Cartesian equations of a line.
- Find the angle between two lines.
- Determine the distance of a point from a line.
- Determine the point of intersection of lines.
- State properties of skew lines.
- Form parametric equations of Planes and Cartesian equation of planes.
- Determine points of intersection of line and plane, line of intersection of 2 planes and 3 planes, point of intersection of 3 planes.
- Determine the angle between a line and a plane, and also angle between two planes.
- Determine the perpendicular distance of a point from a plane.
- Analyse properties of planes in 2D and 3D spaces for real- life applications.
